<image:title>our work - Acupuncture + Chinese Medicine Across the Life of a Woman</image:title>
<image:caption>My practice centers women, mothers, aunties and grandmothers, while making room for the families around them. I work clinically with the body through acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutrition and bodywork, supporting both acute and long-standing health concerns. But health is more than the absence of symptoms. The transitions of our lives can also become openings into a deeper relationship with our bodies and ourselves. Adolescence, menstruation, fertility, pregnancy, birth, motherhood, perimenopause, menopause, grief, illness and aging each ask something different of us. My work is to care for what needs care, help you understand what is happening in your body, and support your ability to make meaningful choices about your own health and life. Women's Health Chinese medicine offers a rich framework for understanding the changing physiology of women throughout a lifetime. Our work may include support for: Menarche + menstrual health Cycle irregularities + menstrual pain Fertility + preconception Pregnancy Birth preparation Postpartum + fourth trimester care Hormonal transitions Perimenopause + menopause Sleep + exhaustion Digestive health Pain + headaches Anxiety + emotional health Grief + major life transitions I welcome women with many different relationships to healthcare. Acupuncture and herbal medicine may be used on their own or alongside conventional medicine, medications, fertility treatment, obstetrical care and other forms of support. There is no single correct way to inhabit a body, give birth, become a mother or care for your health. Our task is to listen closely to what is happening and find the care that makes sense for you. Motherhood Motherhood is a profound physiological transition. It is also an emotional, relational and spiritual one. I work with women through pregnancy, birth preparation, postpartum recovery and the years of motherhood that follow. Care may address pain, sleep, digestion, lactation, depletion, hormonal changes, anxiety and recovery while also making room for the enormous internal changes that can accompany becoming and being a mother. Centering the health of the mother is also a way of caring for children, families and the generations that follow. Children + Adolescence I work selectively with children, particularly during two important periods of family life. The first is infancy and early childhood, when the health of mother and child are intimately connected and the whole family is finding its way into a new rhythm. The second is the transition into adolescence and menarche, when children are entering a rapidly changing relationship with their bodies, emotions and identities. Pediatric care may include acupuncture, acupressure, Chinese herbal medicine, nutrition and other gentle approaches appropriate to the individual child. Family Health Although women are at the center of my practice, health doesn't happen in isolation. I also work with spouses, partners and other family members when their health is part of the larger ecology of the family. This may include pain, stress, sleep, digestion, acute or chronic illness, emotional health, caregiving, grief and periods of significant family transition. How We Work It is best to begin our relationship in person at my practice in Kingston, New York. Our first work together allows me to understand your health history, your body and the larger context of your life. From there, treatment may include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional guidance, bodywork and other practices within Chinese medicine. Once we have established a relationship, telehealth, phone and email consultations may also be appropriate for ongoing support, travel or geographic changes. A Medicine of Participation I don't see the practitioner as the sole authority on another person's body. Part of my work is to offer clinical knowledge, careful observation and perspective while helping you develop greater confidence in your own capacity to notice, understand and participate in your health. Each threshold offers something. Sometimes the table is set and we sit down. Sometimes we walk right by. My role is to help describe what is available, tend what needs tending, and uplift what is already alive and well within you. What you do with this invitation remains yours.</image:caption>
