About Alexis

Alexis Arvidson, MS, LAc

I have been practicing Chinese medicine for over 20 years and have spent 18 of those years in private practice.

My work has grown from a long study of the body and an equally long curiosity about what allows us to live more fully inside our lives.

I came to Chinese medicine because it offered something I continue to value deeply: a way of understanding the body that does not separate physical health from our emotional lives, our relationships, our environment, or the passages we move through as human beings.

Chinese Medicine

My clinical education and continuing study include Classical Chinese Medicine with a focus on women's health, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Pediatric Acupuncture, Tui Na, Alchemical Acupuncture and Esoteric Acupuncture.

Over the years my practice has increasingly centered women and the significant transitions of a woman's life. I work with menstrual and reproductive health, fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood, perimenopause, menopause and the many physical and emotional changes that accompany these passages.

I also work with spouses and partners, and selectively with children, particularly in early childhood and during the transition into adolescence.

Chinese medicine remains the clinical foundation of everything I do.

Beyond the Clinic

Some of my most important education has also happened outside of formal medicine.

I have studied and practiced land-based and wilderness education, group facilitation in indoor and outdoor settings, ceremonial space holding, and the Tonalpohualli medicine of counting the days.

I work with my hands. Mending and making/remaking with wool, cotton, silk, plant dyes and animal hides. These handworks have become practices of recovering, reconnecting and reimagining. They have taught me about attention, repair, patience and relationship in ways that also inform my medicine.

These studies aren't separate from my clinical work. Together they have shaped the way I understand health, participation and what it means to accompany another person through change.

How I Practice

I believe good medicine should increase your relationship with your own knowing, not replace it.

I bring clinical experience, observation and the framework of Chinese medicine to our work. You bring the lived experience of your body and your life.

We pay attention together.

Sometimes the work is very practical. We address pain, bleeding, digestion, sleep, hormones, fertility, recovery, anxiety or illness.

Sometimes what brings someone through the door is also part of a larger threshold.

My role is not to decide what that threshold means for you. It is to care for the body, listen closely, describe what I see, and help illuminate what may already be asking for your attention.

I am interested in medicine that leaves you with more agency, more relationship with your body, and a greater capacity to participate in your own life.
