mother lover

The name Mother Lover came to me years ago when I was still practicing in New York City and my own children were very young.

One day I found myself contemplating the phrase "mother fucker" and the weight it carries in our culture. At the same time, my experience of motherhood was beginning to emerge as an essential part of the work I wanted, and perhaps was meant, to do in the world.

Almost immediately, I felt called toward an antidote. A way of breaking the spell of a culture that too often devalues, dismisses, and exhausts mothers. The medicine arrived swiftly. Mother Lover.

With it came a vision of a culture that holds mothers with reverence, tenderness, and care.

That vision became the seed of my own tiny culture, one that began growing quietly within me. The first seedlings of that dream are what I bring to you today, more than eight years after the idea first burst into my heart. Gestation and timing are two of the great mysteries of becoming.

Over the course of a year, we will walk a winding and alchemical path toward our individual and collective becoming. Together we will be turned by the Wheel of the Year through seasons, elements, celebrations, stories, and ritual. We will listen for the wisdom that lives within the body of our Earth Mother and within our own lives as mothers.

Our work will be to weave our stories, both sacred and ordinary, into the greater rhythms of nature herself. We will gather as mothers, as cultivators of local culture, and as aspiring wisdom keepers for the generations that follow. We will do this work in service to the children who come after us and to the healing that moves both forward and back through time.

This offering is for mothers of all ages and stages who long to be held and to hold others in return. It is for those who are weary of mothering alone and who feel called toward a deeper experience of community, belonging, and shared becoming.

If this calls to you, I would love to hear from you.

You need not have worked with me before to be a good fit. Please feel free to share this invitation with any mothers in your life who may be longing to weave more together and less apart.

In person gathering

We will meet from 11am - 2pm one Sunday a month for an entire year. Gatherings will be held at AiAiA Studio or outdoors as weather and seasons permit.
